Carrie Niewenhous began her professional training 38 years ago as a nurse. Obstetrics, post surgical care, trauma orthopedics, chronic medical, gerontology are a few of the clinical areas of experience on her resume. Over the years, her interests developed in the energetic arena of health and wellness. Recognizing a desire to work from a more holistic approach, with the notion of supporting another’s commitment to health and wellness rather than ‘fixing’ them has been the driving force behind the creation of Body Wisdom.
The tri-spiral of the logo represents the intertwining of the three modalities; Alignment for postural therapy, Balance for Tai Chi, Wholeness for Healing Touch. Body Wisdom, Ltd, is the culmination and the beginning of efforts to offer these three specialty approaches to health and wellness under one roof. When the individual is ready and willing to take an active, responsible role in their own health and healing, this is the place to be. Often, an individual arrives after having “tried everything else”, and leaves wishing they had come here first.
In any of the three therapies, Carrie works with you at the level you are at: high functioning or frail; athlete or side liner. The ONLY prerequisite: you invest in your own healing and wellness through your personal commitment to follow through. With Healing Touch this implies the exploration of your being; in Posture Therapy, it means follow through with a commitment to the personal exercise routine; with Tai Chi, it is regular practice of the form.
Carrie has been certified in the application of Healing Touch for four years. This program of study included a year-long mentorship with a focus on personal and professional development and applications of the practice. She has studied Tai Chi for nine years and has 5 years of teaching experience. Originally schooled at Centered Heart Tai Chi Chuan, Carrie continues her studies locally with Eric Hornak and teachers of the Cheng Man-Ch’ing lineage including Ben Lo of San Francisco and Kim Kanzelberger of Center States Tai Chi Chuan in Kansas City. Her certification in posture therapy is pending; she has worked successfully in this arena for four years.
Carrie is an advocate of life-long learning. In all areas of professional practice and life, she continues working on her own personal growth and development; this is evident in her commitment to establish Body Wisdom.
